Everything About Us
Hello, I'm James Glenn and this is my company. Let me tell you about us here at Negotiation Beyond Conflict - what we do, who we are, our philosophy and personal interests.
What we do
I help senior personnel to resolve conflict; as a result organisations regain increased productivity.
We offer expertise through products and
conflict resolution
services. Many of our clients are mid to large size organisations and industry groups who, given the type of services I do, prefer public anonymity.
Our thinking and insights into how Business Leaders manage and resolve conflict are offered in
The Conflict Report.
I perform the famous
PIGS!
conference session (which bred the
PIGS! eBook
), present
training seminars,
provide one-on-one
coaching
and sell
CD's
for follow-up learning. On our website you'll find lots of free materials and conflict resolution tips, too.
Who we are
In many ways my life has been leading me towards this point - helping people navigate through difficult, at times overwhelming, circumstances and come out the other side with what they really need.
I do so because of my
family's personal history of conflict
and my own involvement in more than 20 years of corporate roles, having driven and received numerous wins, sins and experiences of good and bad conflict.
Studying negotiation skills for many years has been an epiphany for me. My journey allows me to understand, synthesise and create many concepts to help others resolve conflict, either by intervening to resolve intractable conflicts or by teaching how to raise and resolve difficult situations using simple and practical negotiation techniques.
It's about helping others to resolve difficult conflict.
Our Philosophy
Our way of doing things - our culture or philosophy - is driven by our beliefs. Let me share 3 core beliefs about us with you:
* Integrity is paramount. When you hire us, I will do the right thing by your people and tell you what's happening even at our expense. Some time ago I was asked to compromise a Report so that specific people were not identified and thereby avoided accountability for past actions. I refused - and as a result lost a sizeable contract. The important note to this story is that I knew remaining true to my integrity would cost me financially yet chose to do so anyway.
* Make positive assumptions about others. Robin Norris, CEO of L&H Group, once said to me, "...99% of people come to work to do a good job. They don't come to work to mess up." He's right - and as a result we gain better outcomes from those about us.
* Strive to do the best you can. When speaking at a national conference some years ago, marketing guru, Winston Marsh, asked how my session had gone. "Winno," I said, "I gave it everything and left nothin' on the stage."
The work I perform for my clients is the absolute best I can do.
Personal interests
Lyn and I live in Melbourne, having been married for over 15 years. She's the musical one; as Director of Music at a prestigous independent school, that's probably a good thing. We both work hard, squeeze in personal exercise programs, eat well and laugh a lot. AND we are keen golfers, playing most weekends in the elusive quest for the perfect game. This proves tough, so we often strive for "good" and sometimes that's beyond us, too. Which is why you'll find us after the game in the Spike Bar talking of "if only..."
